The project "Implementation of the Environmental Management System" (EMAS) in favour of SMEs created with the contribution of Società per l'Imprenditorialità Giovanile Spa (IG) has been promoted by SIM and  financed by the CEE DG XI in the framework of the LIFE programme.

The project objective is to provide technical assistance and training to a panel of 50 small and medium enterprises in order to allow the implementation of the environmental management system (EMAS) as specified in the CEE regulation 1863/93. (details here from the EU site)    

The SMEs, operating in the agri-food, metallurgic/chemical and transport sector, are located in the South Italy area and were created and financed through the Law 44/86 for the development of the entrepreneurial skills and initiatives.

In collaboration with Società per l'Imprenditorialità Giovanile, a technical team of 10 experts has been set up to develop the project activities; a total of 2 seminars has been held and for each company a technical report has been issued to present the company "environmental" situation identify possible actions in the EMAS framework and the related investment costs.

A classification of the SME according to environmental parameters and problems has been prepared, and accordingly recommendations were returned to the EU as a feed-back to eventually improve the EMAS system approach.
